Following an increase in the number of suicide attempts, fatalities and interventions at a high-risk location, professionals from Hertfordshire County Council and Stevenage Borough Council worked together with local partners to open a crisis cafe to prevent suicide. Havering Council: mental health training and support for schools
Bringing together partners to support a whole school approach to mental health and the development of an online resource setting out information on mental health and suicide prevention training and support for schools. Working with the media
Champs Public Health Collaborative: World Suicide Prevention Day Workshop
Working across nine councils and with Samaritans to improve media reporting through hosting a high profile suicide prevention event. Council collaborative comprised of the nine councils across Cheshire and Merseyside: Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens, Liverpool, Wirral, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton and Warrington councils. Working together with the Samaritan’s Media Advisory Service to monitor local media reporting of suicides and provide training local media organisations to develop postvention reporting as a means of prevention. At risk populations
Reducing risk in men
Funded by the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board, the Hope project provides psychosocial and practical support for men aged 30–64 who are at risk of suicide, advising them in relation to any money, employment, benefit, or housing problems they may identify. Kirkless Council: aligning local services to reduce risk in men
Working with local community groups and partners to offer a range of services for men outside of the clinical setting. This case study was done jointly with the National Suicide Prevention Alliance and forms part of our suicide prevention resource. Read the full case study here.
An evaluation of funded projects in community-based mental health and suicide prevention to inform an evidence review of the effectiveness of these interventions for middle-aged men (40-60 years old) living in Cheshire and Merseyside.
