Big Dog Little Dog (BDLD)
Big Dog Little Dog (BDLD) is a small social enterprise focussed on de-stigmatising mental health, particularly in the workplace. We achieve this through the delivery of accredited and bespoke training courses (including MHFA) and organisation consultancy services. We are particularly focussed on suicide prevention and launched England’s first Ofqual-regulated short course in suicide prevention in September 2020. This features a Level 2 suicide awareness two-day course (including an e-version) and a one-day Level 3 suicide prevention course using the unique STEPS model.

Our work in suicide prevention
At BDLD (Big Dog Little Dog), we develop and deliver innovative suicide intervention training modules. We have also successfully gained government funding for the Level 2 suicide awareness course.
The BDLD metaphor represents our service offer. The “big dog” approach is a dynamic set of services aimed to grab the attention. These services operate best when highly visible and attention grabbing, just like a big dog. They aim to raise awareness around mental ill health, its links with unemployment, the stigma associated with mental health disorders and the widespread discrimination that exists in the workplace, and in society in general.

Our current priorities
Rolling the suicide intervention training qualification out to colleges and independent training providers. We are also developing cohort-specific versions of the training.

Our current challenges
Engaging with key players in the suicide prevention arena. We hope joining the NSPA can support this.
