Blossom Mental Health Training Ltd
Blossom Mental Health Training Ltd consults and trains in the field of mental health. We specialise in working with traditionally male-dominated industries, with a focus on suicide prevention. We work with organisations to develop mental health strategies that help to develop a culture of acceptance around mental ill-health, give employees a shared language to discuss their difficulties, and embed support mechanisms.
How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?
We work predominantly in male-dominated industries, such as construction and utilities, where rates of suicide are high. We work with organisations to develop inclusive mental health strategies that consider work design, corporate culture, communication and support around mental illness. Our focus in male-dominated industries is suicide prevention. To this aim, we help organisations to develop suicide prevention strategies, and to develop a culture of openness and acceptance around mental distress.
We deliver mental Health First Aid and Suicide First Aid training as part of a wider strategy.
In addition we work in education settings, particularly secondary schools, so help teachers support young people at risk of suicide.
What are your current priorities?
Breaking down the stigma around mental health amongst men, and encouraging a culture of openness and support.
What challenges are you currently facing?
Historically, it has been quite difficult to engage with heavy industry around mental health, and the need to look after employee wellbeing. However, over the course of this year we are finding attitudes towards mental wellbeing are softening within the industry. The challenge is that, whilst many organisations see the need for mental health strategies and support for their employees, their core business needs are taking priority. We are consistently knocking on doors, and they are starting to open, albeit slowly.
