Bury Public Health team have been part of Bury Council since April 2013 when public health duty moved from the NHS to local authorities. We work within a strong, formal partnership between the council and NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group. The aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Bury and achieve a sustainable health and social care system across Bury.

Our work in suicide prevention
The public health team at Bury Council contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by:
> Providing an insight into the scale and cost of suicide nationally and locally.
> Raising awareness of what the key factors are in suicide and who is at risk.
> Helping to highlight what is happening nationally, regionally and locally to address this issue.

Our current priorities
> Review the suicide rates in Bury
> Audit what activities each agency is doing to reduce/prevent suicide
> Review all the National and GM strategies and guidance
> Develop and agree a terms of reference
> Develop a draft multi-agency action plan

Our current challenges
Funding and capacity to dedicate more resource to the agenda.
