Bury Council, Public Health Team.

Bury Public Health team have been part of Bury Council since April 2013 when public health duty moved from the NHS to local authorities. We work within a strong, formal partnership between the council and NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group. The aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Bury and achieve a sustainable health and social care system across Bury.

How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?

Bury Council’s public health team contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by:

• Providing an insight into the scale and cost of suicide nationally and locally
• Raising awareness of what the key factors are in suicide and who is at risk
• Helping to highlight what is happening nationally, regionally and locally to address this issue

What are your current priorities?

•Review the suicide rates in Bury
•Audit what activities each agency is doing to reduce/prevent suicide
•Review all the National and GM strategies and guidance
•Develop and agree a terms of reference
•Develop a draft multi-agency action plan
