John Henden Consultancy
John Henden Consultancy provides psychotherapy, coaching, and a wide portfolio of training. The special focus is on suicide prevention training workshops, both at home and overseas.
Also it promotes the best selling book, ‘Preventing Suicide: the solution focused approach.’ A second edition of the book is currently being prepared.
How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?
The organisations role is as follows:
1. To speak/run workshops at Zero Suicide conferences
2. To train bereavement support group\’s volunteers
3. At all our 1-day and 2-day solution focused suicide prevention workshops, to inspire belief in zero suicide: in both individual participants and representatives of clinical teams and other mental health organisations.
What are your current priorities?
The book ‘Preventing Suicide: the solution focused approach’ was published by Wiley & Sons in 2008. It was a worldwide success. Currently the manuscript for the second edition is with the publisher. Delays are being addressed. We will be providing 1-day annual suicide prevention training for Bristol branch volunteers. Looking to expand this to other CRUSE branches nationwide.
What challenges are you currently facing?
Currently, mental health foundation trusts seem reluctant to provide full suicide prevention training for their teams. Instead, it seems for a variety of reasons, they provide ‘Awareness’ events and minimal 1/2 day training courses only.
