Mind in Mid Herts

Mind in Mid Herts is a local mental health charity affiliated to national Mind created through the amalgamation of local Minds in 2007. Mind in Mid Herts has a collaborative, positive and holistic approach to promoting mental wellbeing. We support individuals who are experiencing or who are at risk of experiencing mental and emotional distress. This is achieved by following the Recovery model which enables individuals to make well informed life choices. This way of working underpins all aspects of work within the organisation

How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?

We are key stakeholders involved in the delivery of the local suicide prevention campaign for Hertfordshire, Spot the Signs and Save a Life. Through the campaign we provide various signposting information to a range of different services, including local and national crisis services, regularly attend events to raise awareness and remove stigma around openly talking about suicide and offer fully-funded training sessions to GPs and voluntary and public sector employees in Hertfordshire.

What are your current priorities?

Currently our priorities include expanding our training to target primary care staff, focussing on EDI; refreshing our marketing materials to ensure these are inclusive and sharing more positive messages around suicide prevention, such as individuals stories of hope.

What challenges are you currently facing?

Our main challenge currently is access due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we have been able to attend a few more events in the last couple of months, we have had to move the majority of our campaigning online to try and reach individuals as we are unable to do this in person. We have also had issues accessing GP’s to promote and deliver training due to their workload.
