Our work in suicide prevention

We provide ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) training and supervision, along with support for school staff in lead roles for mental health, well-being, and safeguarding. Our work includes training school staff on mental health, equipping crisis coordinators to respond to critical incidents, and delivering PSHE interventions to students on topics such as mental health, stress management, self-harm, and exam stress. We also offer individual assessments for students with mental health or emotional well-being concerns, using person-centred planning to support their needs.

Our current priorities

Our priorities include increasing the capacity of school staff to understand and support students’ mental health, as well as raising awareness of the impact of trauma on children and young people. We aim to reduce stressors in schools for both staff and students while building the resilience of children and young people to navigate the challenges of everyday life.

Our current challenges

Our current challenges include the increasing “pathologising” of normal distress, which leaves people feeling disempowered and less confident in providing support. In schools, a lack of time for well-being and PSHE, combined with high academic demands, often leads to less inclusivity and the exclusion of vulnerable young people, either temporarily or permanently.

Inadequate CAMHS provision remains a significant issue, with an overemphasis on diagnosis and labelling rather than understanding the experiences and life events of children and young people.
