The Will Garvey Trust Foundation
Our aim is to raise awareness of suicide and mental health with our central mantra based on the slogan W.T.F. – Why Talking Fixes. Our charity’s primary focus is on young people (aged 13-25) and their support communities but we hope and intend that our resources and activities find relevance to everyone looking for support. WTF aims to work with local schools and organisations to develop early intervention programmes with the ultimate intention of preventing suicide.
How does your organisation contribute to preventing suicide and supporting those affected by it?
WTF runs workshops which explore attitudes to mental health and empowers young people to talk about their feelings and experiences. We believe that suicide prevention begins with young people, before negative attitudes to, and stigmatisation of, mental health, have been established.
What are your current priorities?
Our current priority is to establish a Wellbeing Library within secondary schools in our local area.
We are working to establish WTF in our community as a reliable source of information about mental health and suicide prevention.
WTF is working hard to develop partnerships with local community groups with shared concerns.
What challenges are you currently facing?
Our biggest challenge is establishing WTF as a reliable, and valuable, resource in our community, in the prevention of suicide.
