Woman’s Trust
Woman’s Trust is a specialist mental health charity, providing free counselling and therapy for women in London, who have experienced/are experiencing domestic abuse.
Our work in suicide prevention
Domestic abuse can have a significant and lasting impact on a woman’s mental health. It is estimated that around 3 women a week die by suicide as a result of domestic abuse and many women we work with have/are experiencing suicidal ideation or have attempted suicide. Woman’s Trust provides therapeutic services to support women with the psychological and emotional damage caused as a result of domestic abuse. Our trauma-informed therapy helps women to improve their mental health and rebuild their lives.
Our motivation for joining the NSPA
A joined-up approach to suicide prevention will provide the best chance to achieve this aim. At Woman’s Trust we feel we could learn a lot from other organisations working in this area; knowledge sharing will help us better understand the needs of our client group and ways to support them. In addition, it is fundamental to highlight the link between domestic abuse and suicide in order to raise awareness and influence policy. Joining the NSPA will assist us in promoting our services, promoting the need for these services, and importantly, the needs of women affected by domestic abuse.
