Our response to the closure of Papyrus
From the NSPA Staff team and Co-Chairs
We are deeply saddened and concerned by the news of Papyrus going into administration and the closure of Hopeline.
For decades Papyrus have provided a lifeline for children and young people who are in distress and suicidal, as well as the families and loved ones around them.
They have also worked tirelessly in their wider suicide prevention efforts and have been a hugely valued member of our alliance as one of our founding organisations.
Our thoughts are with the staff and supporters, young people and families directly impacted by the closure. If you are in distress or worried about someone we have listed some support services below.
Supporting our community
We also want to acknowledge the impact this news is likely having on many in the voluntary and community sector and the suicide prevention community. We see the huge pressures that voluntary and community services are under – we hear repeatedly from charities in our community about the strains they are under both financial and the demand for support. The closure of Papyrus brings into sharp focus what many of us have been saying for a long time – the need for sustainable funding and investment.
If any individuals or organisations are in need of support, we will be offering up space to come together. If you would like to be sent more details please email info@nspa.org.uk and we will be in contact.
