Suicide prevention campaign in Barnet: Evaluation report
In October 2021, Barnet Council launched a multi-faceted campaign targeted at the prevention of suicide and mental ill-health amongst working-aged men, the single largest group who lose their life to suicide each year. Throughout the campaign period, November 2021 – January 2022, not a single person, known to them, lost their life to suicide, bucking the rising London and national trend.
A secondary evaluation of the report was completed by Prof. Lisa Marzano from Middlesex University. The report demonstrates that (with caveats) the campaign might have saved 7-10 lives and contributed to the small but growing literature on the effectiveness of suicide awareness campaigns.
