Loneliness and self‑harm in adolescents during the first national COVID‑19 lockdown

This study looks at adolescents’ experiences of loneliness and self-harm during the first national lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Loneliness and self-harm in adolescents were studied in a UK school survey of over 10,000 pupils aged 12–18. Feeling lonely often or sometimes greatly increased the likelihood of self-harm. The report recommended that schools should address loneliness to improve mental health and reduce self-harm in adolescents.
