Policy briefing: Practical and financial advice within suicide prevention services can make them more effective
Researchers from the National Institute for Health and Care Research Applied Research Collaboration West (NIHR ARC West) conducted a study to understand the impact of providing practical and financial support, as well as emotional support on men who had experienced suicidal feelings or made suicidal attempts.
The service provided directly tackled financial, employment, housing or welfare issues as well as emotional support, whereas suicide prevention services often focus on emotional support alone.
This policy briefing summarises the key findings and policy implications of the study which shows that providing practical and financial advice within suicide prevention services can make them more effective.
