National Suicide Prevention Alliance is seeking a new host organisation
The National Suicide Prevention Alliance (NSPA) plays a vital role in bringing all parts of society together to prevent suicide. Over the past ten years, we have worked tirelessly to drive change – developing and sharing best practice, facilitating collaboration, and ensuring that people with lived experience of suicide are at the heart of suicide prevention work in England:
– With over 2,500 members of the NSPA community and a small but dedicated team, we support people across all sectors to reduce suicide risk, while also working with government to influence national policy and legislation.
– Our Lived Experience Network is an exemplar of good practice, with over 400 members of our online Lived Experience panel, and over 30 Lived Experience Influencers who are trained and supported to shape, influence, and inform suicide prevention work nationally and locally.
– Our annual conference sets the agenda for the whole sector, and our regular programme of events explores key issues to help members reduce the risk of suicide in communities across the country.
Throughout this, we’ve kept membership free of charge and developed groundbreaking guidance, such as Help is at Hand, the Local Suicide Prevention Planning Guidance, and our Guidance for involving people with lived experience in suicide prevention. We also offer over 200 resources and articles on our website, a new and thriving online member forum, and crucial work with racialised communities and people with a wide range of lived experience.
During this time, we have been generously hosted by Samaritans. They were one of the founding organisations of NSPA in 2013, and their support has helped us grow into the strong and influential alliance we are today.
At a time when the whole sector is facing difficult financial challenges, Samaritans has taken the difficult decision that it needs to focus on the sustainability of its core services. Therefore, Samaritans has decided it is no longer able to host the NSPA. This comes at a time when the NSPA has also been thinking about its future shape and direction, and the need to ensure our programme best meets the needs of the suicide prevention landscape where it is now.
As we continue to evolve and sharpen our focus on lived experience, policy, and advocacy at the NSPA, we are now working hard to find a new host organisation to support us in the next phase of our development.
If you think you or your organisation could play a role in helping us secure a new home, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us on info@nspa.org.uk
While we focus on this transition, we will need to pause our plans for future events. However, we will continue to spotlight members’ work and bring our community together via our online member forum, LinkedIn and X accounts, and our monthly newsletter. So please continue to share your news and updates with us.
We will also continue to welcome new members to the NSPA community, and platform, support, and work with people with lived experience to ensure lived experience voices continue to shape suicide prevention.
We will keep you updated as our work to find a new host organisation progresses. Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and commitment.
